The Environment and Planning Department of Council controls all planning and development within the Shire.

The Planning and Development functions of the Department include:
- Assessing Development Applications for Building, Subdivision and Change of Use
- Development and Building Compliance
- Issue of certificates - zoning, building, outstanding notices
- Strategic Planning
- Heritage
- Complaint investigation
